Dr. Abdullah Atayee s/o Maulana Muhammad Sediq Atayee was born in 1969 in Reig village of Zenda Jan district of Herat province.

Mr. Atayee has started his education from Foshanj High School, he learned from his father who was a prominent scholar in Herat and also benefited from scholars such as Maulana Muhammad Azam Barna Aabady and Shaikh Abdul Karim Beyara, Mufti of Baghdad.

In the year 1979 Dr. Atayee migrated to Iran and completed 12th grade of high school there. After that in the year 1987, he graduated from Academy of Sharia Sciences (Al Mahd Al Shary Alaly) in Peshawar Pakistan. In the same year, he was sent to Al Azhar by Professor Burhanuddin Rabani and once again started his secondary education at this famous educational center of the Islamic world. While graduating from 12th grade of Al Azahr, he was among top five students for which he was appreciated by Grand Emam, Shiakh Jaadul Haq Ali Jaadul Haq. He completed his bachelors, masters and PhD degrees at the Law and Sharia faculty of Al Azhar University.

From the year 1989 to 2010, Dr. Atayee has been busy working as professor and guest lecturer at Al Azhar, Ain ul Shams and Farhang Sara-e-Olum-e-Sharq Universities.

Dr. Atayee’s academic works are as below:

  1. The origins of equality before judiciary and its application in Sharia law and contemporary judicial systems
  2. The idea of humanitarian intervention from the point of view of Islamic Jurisprudence and Public International Law.
  3. Arabic language lessons for non-native Arabs.
  4. Moderation in Islam 
  5. Islam’s relationship with other religions.
  6. Rights of fetus in Islamic Jurisprudence. 
  7. Private International Law.
  8. Translation of Civil Procedure Code of Afghanistan from Dari to Arabic with the cooperation of Dr. Abdul Malic Kamawi, member of the Supreme Court.
  9. Characteristics of the principles of Islamic Law
  10. International Criminal Law and Afghanistan’s position per the Rome Statute.

Based on the instructions of His Excellency Abdul Salam Azimi, chief justice Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Dr. Atayee took the responsibility of training programs for Afghan Judges in the National Judicial Research Center of Egypt from 2010 to 2012.

Dr. Atayee was appointed as manager of judicial education in the year 2010, one year later he was appointed as the Director of Judicial Education of the Supreme Court and based on SC proposal and order of His Excellency Hamid Karzai, in November 2012 he was appointed as General Administration Director of the Judiciary.
